(John Porter) Ethel Freame, the daughter of a Gillingham solicitor, maintained a daily journal for most of her long life. A great number of these diary books were transcribed a number of years ago by a group of volunteers, which has allowed the author to use Ethel’s comments and remarks on her family and others in her social circle to provide a picture of life in the town.
