(Redvers Burt)  Long Sutton is a village in the heart of Somerset, and the author lived and worked there all his life.  He recalls his childhood years, his early working life with local farmers and builders, his wartime years in the Home Guard and the 26 years he spent with the South West Electricity Board, until his retirement in 1987.

The content paints a fascinating story of the local residents, including road-menders, cider-makers, sheep-shearers, stone-masons and a host of village characters and their sometimes amusing escapades.
