Pat Hilbert and John Tanner of the SDFHS East Dorset Group describe their new venue.
The SDFHS East Dorset Group has now held its second meeting at its new venue, the Hilda Coles Learning Centre at the Priest’s House Museum in Wimborne with around 30 attending on Monday 17 February to hear Alan Brown speaking on The Life and Times of Ernest Seward, a Dorset relative of his. Ernest fought in the Boer War then emigrated to Manitoba but joined up again to fight in a Canadian regiment at the Somme and was photographed in Kent wearing a Scottish kilt, before going off to the war!

The Group is very happy with the room and facilities at the Hilda Coles Centre. Parking is not quite as close as at the previous venue but there is plenty of parking space in Wimborne itself. The room is square and very comfortable, making for easy viewing of illustrated talks. As summer approaches it will be even more pleasant as members attending will have access to the gardens before and after talks. We are looking forward to many years there.

The East Dorset Group meets once a month on Monday evenings and all are very welcome to attend. For the full programme for 2014 see here. Please note that access to the Learning Centre in the evening is via the rear doors off Crown Mead not through the usual day-time entry point to the Museum off the High Street. The rear doors are adjacent to the Library.
