A Somerset Sniper at Gettysburg

Date: 25th March 2020
Time: 00:00 - 00:00
Location: SDFHS Family History Centre, Broadway House, Peter St, Yeovil BA20 1PN

Update 15.3.2020: This talk has been postponed and will be rearranged as soon as the current situation allows.

Robin Ansell, a long-time member of the American Civil War Round Table UK (and of the SDFHS) will tell the fascinating story of Henry Lye, the son of a Crewkerne Carpenter, who emigrated to the United States, via Canada, in the mid-1850s. With the outbreak of the American Civil War he enlisted in one of the most prestigious, elite units in the Union Army and was present at the climactic Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. This talk was inspired by the chance discovery of an ambrotype photograph of Henry Lye on the internet early last year!

SDFHS Members: £3. Non-members: £5. Includes refreshments.
